At Leadwood Limousins, we continuously invest in top-quality genetics to breed fertile, functional, efficient animals with high-yielding carcases. Our Limousins are bred in an endemic heartwater area well-adapted to the harsh African climatic conditions.
We aim to breed well-muscled, well-balanced medium-sized frame bulls of outstanding quality and presence. Masculinity, movability, hardiness and robustness are essential. We also aim to breed fertile females with excellent mothering capabilities and sufficient milk yields of good quality to raise strong, lively calves.
We want all our clients to benefit from the unsurpassed Leadwood Limousin genetics. Our bulls produce top quality calves which in turn delivers top quality meat - a real return on investment, and superior in every way.
The Leadwood Limousin stud is registered with the Limousin Cattle Breeders' Society of SA and is inspected regularly for compliance with the Limousin Breeding Standard.

What are Limousins?
Limousins are genetically hard-wired to produce more meat more efficiently. The breed is prized for its hardiness, regular breeding, easy calving, good milking qualities, longevity, fast growth, and the production of exceptionally high-yielding carcases with little fat.
The Limousin breed is functionally-efficient with an excellent average daily gain and feed conversion ratio. With their high meat-to-bone ratio and low fat, the carcass value of the Limousin is very high in comparison to other breeds.

The Leadwood Limousin stud is vaccinated against anthrax, botulism, black quarter, lumpy skin disease and Pasteurella. All animals are treated against internal and external parasites. Vetswana conducts bull fertility tests and issues certificates.
Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs)
At Leadwood Limousins, we keep detailed records of our animals to ensure that we offer Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) for a range of essential production traits (e.g. weight, carcase, fertility). These EBVs provide objective information on the animals we are selling so that you know what you are buying!
DNA profiling
All of our animals are DNA-profiled, also known as “genotyping”, to confirm the parents of a specific animal. DNA-based parentage testing allows for correct individual identification of animals, ensuring a unique, permanent DNA ID for traceability.
Animals approved for sale
All our animals are inspected and approved for sale by the Limousin Cattle Breeders Society of Southern Africa. This process ensures that when you purchase a Limousin from us, you can be sure it complies with the breed standard.
